The Home of Poitín

Award-winning cocktail bar in the heart of Dublin

Staunchly Irish, we work with some of the best producers on this island.

By paying homage to all of Ireland’s native drinks, especially poitín, we’re writing our own chapter in the colourful history of this notorious Irish spirit. Named after the year poitín was banned in Ireland we celebrate its new modern place in the canon of Irish drinks.

Bar 1661 is independently owned and operated by Dave Mulligan, a passionate man when it comes to Poitín. You’ll find us nestled among the fruit markets in the heart of Dublin 7.

John Wilson, The Irish Times
“Bar 1661, a new poitín bar on the north side of Dublin, is small and cozy. It’d be a crime not to go for their house spirit”
New York Magazine
“Timeless and elegant…one of those places in which you can see there is a lot of love and care put into every detail."
The Taste
“Bringing something a little different to the Dublin bar scene…Bar 1661's star of the show is their Belfast Coffee”
Lovin’ Dublin
“Poitín’s time is truly nigh…A temple to the pure drop”
Aoife Carrigy, Image Interiors
“The most impressive list of Irish made drinks we’ve seen anywhere”
Lisa Cope, All the Food
